Abby Goodman

We learned about Abby Goodman via Blackbird Gallery in New York. It was instantly apparent that she is a talented, dedicated, artist who is excelling in various mediums. We were intrigued by her sculptures and installation, particularly Deer Fly. Naturally we had to reach out to have her on the blog!

A metallurgist from the age of twelve, Abby grew up in an old barn in the outskirts of Philadelphia.  A nomadic nature drives her to work and study alongside masters around the globe, collecting knowledge in exchange for labor.  These experiential travels forge the basis of Goodman’s work.  Scavenging the streets for discarded materials, she utilizes her skills transforming found objects into freshly minted works of art.  Sculpture, painting, installation, and performance all contribute to her autobiographical pastiche.  Complete with mythical beasts and barren landscapes, Goodman uses this illusive world as a platform to address the human condition. These images act as harbingers, yet function as symbols of hope.

Jo Illustrates!

Work featuring great color, architecture, an eye for design, and fun shops?! Yes please! If this intrigues you as much as us, check out Jo Illustrates! Jo Illustrates! is a project by a Sydney based artist who dabbles in illustration; she draws inspiration from a past life of studying graphic design and architecture, working in a graphic style that is detail orientated. Jo was kind enough to give us some insight into how she approaches her work: I use a combination of copic markers, paint pens and felt tip markers in my work and find the materials I use inform the type of art I create. Almost as if they are in charge and it's my job to figure out how to form an image from their application. I find approaching my art in this way is not only expressive, but methodical and puzzle like.  I am inspired by architecture, music, travel, design, pattern and colour. You can see more of her work on Instagram   @_jo_illustrates or on Etsy  http://w
