Remember what we mentioned
the other day about being jealous of artists who create three-dimensional work
that the user can interact with? We discovered the work of a Nicole Sanabria, who paints on vintage mirrors. She paints beautifully rendered images on
repurposed antiques, creating a stunning juxtaposition between a modern and vintage
imagery.
Nicole Sanabria is a
self-taught artist whose creative production revolves around painting and
photography. Throughout her life, Nicole has always needed to have a creative
outlet and as a child she was heavily influenced by her artist grandmother who
inspired her to create.
She was struck by an idea to extend her art beyond the canvas and the result of this idea is her current series "Mirrors". This series is the transformation of antique hand mirrors into backdrops for her paintings. She explores the pairing of frame to scene, and letting the subject extend beyond the glass. By finding these old items she breathes a new life into them.
